The Bosphorus River was the backdrop to this stunning Indian wedding in Istanbul

In more ways than one, this wedding is a story of East meeting West. Investment banker Karan Punjabi grew up in Singapore and real estate professional Rovena Mehta in the US. So they chose to marry in Istanbul as the Turkish capital, like them, is a symbol of two worlds coming together. “The Bosphorus Bridge connects Europe to Asia. That felt reflective of our story,” says the bride.

The destination

Easy connectivity and the city’s rich culture added to its appeal as a wedding destination. While the 260 guests stayed at the 186-key Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, events were spread across other iconic spots in the city. The welcome dinner was at farm-to-table rooftop restaurant M?rver, overlooking the old city. The sangeet started with a river cruise, after which the boat dropped the party at the Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul, for the festivities. The wedding was at one of Istanbul’s most coveted hotels–the ??ra?an Palace Kempinski, a 19th-century former Ottoman palace located along the river.
