Indian weddings are incomplete without the beats of the dhol blaring at the venue, especially when the baraat, the groom’s procession, arrives. As the dholak players play the dhol with all their energy and vigour, wedding guests also shower them with currency notes to praise their performances.
However, with digital payments gaining popularity over the last few years, many people don’t carry as much cash as they used to before. So, it seems digital technology has also made inroads in wedding ceremonies as an X user shared a photo of a dholak player who put out his UPI (Unified Payments Interface) code so as not to miss out on the generosity bestowed on him during weddings.

Prateek Bhatnagar (@_prateekbh) shared the photo of the dholak player who had attached his mobile with a QR code for receiving UPI payments on his dhol. He found this in Bengaluru and termed it his ‘Peak Bengaluru’ moment.
“This is wonderful. We can help him know that he can use a printout instead. Phone can slip or get some internals dislodged owing to vibrations during the Dholak play,” a user commented.
A similar video of a dholak player receiving money via UPI during a wedding had gone viral in August last year.

The video shared by Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Enterprises, showed a man searching for QR code. People are seen making moves to dhol beats at the wedding. The man waves his mobile phone over the groom’s head, as one does with money and turns to the drum with a QR code. He is seen scanning the code and making a payment. Another man is heard saying in the background in Hindi, “This is very right, brother. Bought a new one from the market.”
