Alia Bhatt recently recalled anecdotes from the National Awards ceremony where she was honoured with the Best Actor award for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The actor shared how it was a ‘pinch me’ moment and she was quite overwhelmed with how well the event was planned. She also gave details about what happened seconds before she went up on the stage, and opened up about her choice of re-wearing her wedding saree for the occasion.
Alia Bhatt was in conversation at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit where she was asked about her ‘big moment’. She shared that while she was amazed by the event as a whole, there was a special moment between her and co-winner Kriti Sanon that left her emotional. She shared how they were standing in a queue ready to walk up the stage when Kriti turned around saying that she wanted to hug her. “It was… we both got emotional. It was two young girls living a moment of dream and gratitude. We both had tears in our eyes and after a point we had to stop hugging as we would have started weeping,” the acclaimed actor shared with a smile.
Alia Bhatt also shared that it’s important to understand that a “special outfit can be worn for a special occasion” more than once. She said that women often plan to wear their wedding outfits on other occasions, and it was a way to ‘encourage that conversation more’. “I did want to change that thought. The whole world had seen me in that saree for days after the wedding. But that doesn’t matter, as what matters is the person.”
She also said that she wanted to promote the thought of mindfulness as one doesn’t always need to buy a new outfit. The actor said that it may not happen all the time but even if you do it a couple of times, it’s a big statement that you make, “not just for you but also the planet.”
