THANE: Eight members of a family including the husband have been booked allegedly for physically and mentally harassing his pregnant 23-year-old wife, beating her on the stomach that led tomiscarriageand then giving hertriple talaq.The police said that the victim, aged-23, got married in feb this year and was residing with her in-laws.The police said that in her complaint the victim alleged that a month later, after her wedding, the husband of the victim started checking her mobile phone and found old photos of her with her fiance with whom she had broken up.She was subjected to physical and mental abuse by the husband and other in-laws of the accused’s family. The harassment went to such an extent that the in-laws started blackmailing her with photographs of her previous fiancée. They even asked her to bring more gold from her parents as well as demanded Rs 10 lakh. They also closed her in a room and were not giving her food, the complaint stated.Her parents to pacify the in-laws gave them some of the gold ornaments as well cash, the complaint with the police stated.In august this year, the victim was five months pregnant, the husband of the victim picked up a quarrel with her on the photos with her previous fiance. In a fit of rage, he kicked her so hard on her stomach that the fetus died that led to the mis carriage, the complaint with the Mumbra police stated.Due to this, she approached the police in Vasai who referred her to theBharosa cellwherein the accused husband said talaq thrice. Hence the complaint.Case has been registered withMumbra police stationunder various sections of the Indian penal code and other sectionsMuslim Women Marriage protection actof 2019.
