Sax, Jazz & the sound of dunes at Sunder Nursery Events Movie News

Musicians from Germany and India came together for a live concert at the Unesco Heritage site Sunder Nursery.moon-lit musical night in Delhi’s iconic Sunder Nursery with a Saxophone quartet from Germany, a contemporaryJazzand Funk band from India, as well as soulful Sufi and folk songs from the Thar Desert, enthralled Delhiites on November 17.Munich’s Arcis Saxophon Quartet is one of the most vibrant classical ensembles globally.The quartet specialises in Broadway show tunes, works by composers from the 20th century as well as contemporary and classical chamber music, i.e. compositions performed without a conductor that are often described as “conversations among friends”. “This season we celebrate 15 years of Arcis – and our first time India. We shared our music and our vision, that the saxophone conquers the classical stages of the world, just like its inventor AdolpheSaxintended,” said Claus Hierluksch of Arcis Saxophon Quartet.

The Indian Contemporary Jazz and Funk bandSyncopation, led by guitarist and composer Risshi S Sachdeva, was founded in 2009. The band plays a mix of Modern Jazz blended with elements of funk, swing and bebop. Their music is characterised by soulful melodies, modern grooves and frenzied improvisations, showcasing their unique approach to Jazz as an evolving art form. Their debut album was called an “Indian jazz masterpiece”. “We were super excited to be part of the Amarrass Nights. It was a night to remember. We will be performing material from our new album ‘The Indian Sky ‘ along with our older classics which our fans love,” saidRisshi.

Barmer Boys, the next generation of Manganiyar singers, are carying forward the centuries-old musical tradition while mixing it with contemporary instruments and musical styles. The trio’s versatility of styles infuses each performance – from soulful Sufi kalaams and Krishna bhajans, to uplifting wedding and celebratory songs, as well as boisterous jams with beatboxing.

The three groups made the audience to sway along the tunes creating a different-worldly sama. “The gorgeous Sunder Nursery is the perfect setting to celebrate music and musicians. We are happy that ‘Sax, Jazz and the sound of Dunes’ transported Delhi’s music aficionados to enchanting European cities and the dunes of Rajasthan,” said, Ashutosh, co-founder of Amarrass Records, the organisers of the Amarrass Nights.
