AIIMS PhD scholar arrested for raping woman on pretext of marriage

Ghaziabad Police Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old PhD student from AIIMS, Delhi, for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. Police said the victim, aged 25, had filed a complaint against the man and his family alleging rape, sexual harassment and that they demanded dowry. The woman met the scholar, who is from Haryana, on a matrimonial platform around eight months back.
“During investigation, we found the allegation against the man is true. He has been arrested on rape charges and sent to jail. The complainant said both of them had agreed to get married and on this pretext, he initiated sexual relations with her… the
victim said she didn’t agree. Investigation against the accused’s family is on,” said Abhishek Srivastava, ACP Kavinagar.
The complainant alleged the accused and his family were demanding Rs 25 lakh cash and a Scorpio car. She further said when she failed to meet these demands, the accused postponed the wedding and later refused to marry her. The victim also alleged the accused and his brother-in-law visited her home and sexually assaulted her after giving her a drink containing sedatives. She also alleged the accused forced her to terminate her pregnancy.
