Two days after he allegedly shot his daughter’s father-in-law dead following an altercation over the separation of their children, a 53-year-old man was arrested by the Gautam Buddha Nagar police Thursday.

The accused, Chandrashekhar alias Shekhar Yadav, said he was upset with his daughter’s seperation with the son of the deceased and turned the gun on him after their paths crossed at a wedding held at a farm house in Bisrakh village Monday, police said.

The daughter of the accused had got married to the son of the deceased, Ashok Kumar, in 2021.

The accused is a resident of Simbhaoli, Hapur, and was currently living in Ghaziabad. He was arrested near Tigri roundabout on the way to NH-24.

According to police, Kumar, 55, a resident of Hoshiarpur village in Noida, had come to attend the wedding of his friend’s daughter at the farm house where the incident took place.

“During questioning, the accused said that Kumar and his son Dinesh had started harassing his daughter right after she got married into their family in 2021. He said he was deeply hurt because of the harassment and the subsequent separation. The accused said he had tried to talk to Kumar about his decision (to initiate a divorce) several times but he did not pay heed,” said police in a statement.

Police said that during the wedding ceremony on Monday, an altercation again broke out between Kumar and Yadav. Yadav shot Kumar in the head with his licensed gun, resulting in the 55-year-old’s death later in the hospital.
