Twinkle Khanna says Karan Johar charges ‘a crore’ to play rapid fire at kids’ birthday parties, he says: ‘Your husband and I think alike’

Karan Johar and Twinkle Khanna roasted each other incessantly at the recent launch event for her latest book, Welcome to Paradise. Karan interviewed Twinkle, his childhood friend, about her career as an author, getting a degree in creative writing in her 50s, and various other topics. At one point in the conversation, Twinkle poked fun at Karan’s ability to milk his brand for money by agreeing to attend private events.
Karan embraced this side of himself, and said that he’s a lot like Twinkle’s husband, actor Akshay Kumar, in this regard. Karan asked her, “What would you prefer, bestselling author, or a critically acclaimed one with no sales at all?” Twinkle replied, “I want to be Karan Johar with my own show, where I make so much money, and I also go to people’s birthday parties and they give me a crore for that.” Karan was left speechless.
Once he regained his composure, he said, “Are you speaking to my agency, by any chance? Are they divulging details they’re not supposed to? I’ve been invited to various events, including children’s birthday parties, to play rapid fire. And I’ve accepted that invite.” Twinkle replied, “I think that’s really good. My husband says he’ll go for anything, including mundans.” Karan agreed. He said, “Your husband and I think alike. I’ve been to a child’s birthday party where the child was, lo and behold, two years old. There wasn’t much of an interaction.”
On Karan’s Koffee with Karan, Ranveer Singh had once revealed that he learned about the commercial benefits of attending private events from Akshay. Ranver said, “Band Baaja has come out, this is my first year. He was headlining a wedding, me and Anushka were the opening act. The wedding was over, and this was wedding season, so every weekend there was a wedding. And sir was headlining a wedding the following weekend as well. He says, ‘Beta, agle hafte aa raha hai?’ I said, ‘Nahi sir, mera kuch yeh woh hai’. He said, ‘Yeh dekh, I don’t like to see money getting wasted. Shaadi hai, main naach raha hoon; birthday hai, main naach raha hoon; mundan hai, bachcha ro raha hai, main naach raha hoon’.”
