Fashion enthusiast and trend forecaster Ahaana Khosla wanted to be a ‘different bride’ and roped in her father Manoviraj Khosla, a menswear fashion designer based in Bengaluru, to create her wedding ensemble. In a surprising move, the father-daughter duo embarked on an unconventional path – crafting a wedding lehenga from denim.

Ditching a traditional lehenga for an outfit that resonated with her personality, Ahaana collaborated with her father to create a unique bridal lehenga that was enlivened with contrasting floral embroidered motifs. The lehenga was teamed with a matching sleeveless blouse and a tulle dupatta.
Taking the coordination game up by a notch, even the groom Shehan Minocher wore a denim bandhgala for the wedding teamed with white trousers, and wait for it, denim footwear.

“Denim is so versatile, timeless, trans-seasonal and can seamlessly take you from day to night. While my dad had some wild ideas like doing frays and going really funky, the one thing I was very clear on was that it had to look like a wedding lehenga. And I wanted all the embroidery to mean something,” Ahaana said.
The butterflies and dragonflies embroidered on their ensembles signified change, transformation and a new beginning.
Denim lehenga, however, is not a new concept as several Indian designers have already played with the contemporariness of denim with the ethnic charm of the lehenga silhouette. Labels like Varun Bahl, AK-OK and SVA by Sonam and Paras Modi have created such experimental ensembles.
This couple’s wedding outfit choice, we must add, is another remarkable testament to the fashion evolution in the Indian fashion scene, reflecting how modern couples are inching towards outfits that are an extension of their personalities.
