Matrimony super app Betterhalf and premier tech-enabled end-to-end wedding planning and fulfillment company announced the expansion of its professional wedding services in Lakshadweep. As part of the plan, it projects to create jobs and extend its professional services to 10000 vendors with a $5 million investment in the PAN India expansion in the next three years.
Indians spend more than Rs. 3000 Cr. for travel and social celebrations in Maldives. However, the derogatory made by Maldives’ ministers has created a social battle among the nations. In response to the growing sentiment in the #BoycottMaldives hashtag, Betterhalf takes a stand to promote tourism in Lakshadweep through destination weddings.
Pawan Gupta, CEO and co-founder of Betterhalf, said, “We perceive this as an opportune moment to extend our presence into Lakshadweep, a destination already marked for expansion on our strategic roadmap. Our commitment is unwavering, aiming to provide unmatched wedding experiences amidst the breathtaking landscapes of this island.
“We eagerly anticipate contributing to the ‘Wed In India’ campaign, endorsed by Prime Minister Modi, hence enhancing India’s stature as a premier wedding destination through our wedding operations launch in Lakshadweep,” Gupta said.
The destination wedding business in Maldives reached a valuation of US$ 252.4 million in 2023, while the Indian economy faces a loss of Rs 1 lac crore due (approx $12Bn) to destination weddings abroad. In tandem with growing sentiments, Betterhalf has aligned its expansion in Lakshadweep with the call to support local businesses and boost the domestic economy, urging couples to consider the beauty and richness that Indian destinations offer.
Besides holidays, India is already recognized as a destination for weddings in Goa, Havelock Island, Mussoorie, Shimla, Rishikesh, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur, Kerala, and many others. As part of the expansion strategy, Betterhalf will feature some of the wedding destinations across India that it is endorsing.
Betterhalf has announced its expansion with PAN India wedding operations in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Wed in India” campaign and thousands of other Indians who are supporting Indian tourism. Betterhalf is committed to endorsing wedding destinations in 100 cities across India, generating employment for 10,000 professional wedding vendors, and delivering world-class wedding experiences for urban couples.
Currently, Betterhalf is operationally live in Lakshadweep Island, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer), Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, and Kerala. Additionally, it plans to add 10 new destination cities by December 2024.
