Billionaire Anant Ambani’s fiancee Radhika Merchant copies speech

The bride-to-be of the son of India‘s richest man has been accused of ripping off her pre-wedding speech from Hollywood movie Shall We Dance.

Last week’s pre-wedding celebration of Radhika Merchant, 29, and Anant Ambani, 28, made headlines all over the world for the opulence of the occasion which cost over £100m.

But in the midst of the grandeur, with over 1,500 guests, there was one intimate and personal moment, when Merchant gave her heartfelt speech for her soon to be husband.

However, internet sleuths later revealed that the heartfelt speech was an almost word for word copy of the one Susan Sarandon gave to Richard Jenkins in the 2004 rom-com.

Despite some saying it could be an innocent reenactment of Rahika’s ‘favourite scene’, others are more dubious and believe she ripped it off.

SPEECH FROM 2004’S SHALL WE DANCE

‘In a marriage you’re promising to care about everything; the good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things – all of it all the time.

Every day you’re saying your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it.

Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness.

But when you find somebody you find somebody to promise you to care about everything; the good, the bad, the beautiful, the (sic), the mundane.

You say I will see you everyday.

Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it.

Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will witness it.

The speech goes: ‘In a marriage you promise to care about everything; the good things, the bad things, the terrible things and the mundane things – all of it.

‘You say your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will witness it.’

The copycat speech seemed to go completely unnoticed until after the celebrations when film-fan Sadiq Saleem posted both clips on Instagram with the comment: ‘They could have called me. I would have changed the wording for them for a few crores.’ (A crore is the equivalent of almost £100,000.)

Disappointed X users took to the platform to share their disapproval.

One wrote: ‘Even ChatGPT could have done a better job.’

However, others jumped to Merchant’s defense, writing: ‘Who knows, this could be one of her favourite scenes and while she was growing up she visualised saying it each time she watched it.’

Whatever the reason, whether it was intentionally ripped off or innocently reenacted, the couple will hope to have more trust in each other than their movie counterparts.

Shall We Dance follows a married couple as the husband played by Richard Gere stays out late every night fulfilling his new found passion for dancing and the wife, Susan Sarandon, grows suspicious and hires a private investigator, Richard Jenkins, to watch him.

Radhika and Anant’s pre-wedding celebrations had a guest list jam packed with celebrities and billionaires including Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka.

There was also a live music performance from Rihanna.

The £100m price tag for the event is equivalent to over ten per cent of Rihanna’s entire net worth – and she is the richest female musician in the world.

However it would have hardly put a dent in the happy couple’s family wallet – Mukesh Ambani, Anant’s father, is the 9th richest person in the world.

The wedding is on July 7.
