Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married earlier this year. The duo decided to opt for an intimate wedding followed by a wedding reception and no other pre-wedding functions. Weddings in India are usually a multi-day affair but Sonakshi recently revealed the reason behind not choosing an elaborate wedding. The actor shared that after she saw her brother Kussh’s wedding, she told her mother Poonam that she would never get married in that fashion.

In a chat with Galatta India, when Sonakshi was asked if there was any pressure to have a ‘big fat Indian wedding’, the actor said, “There was pressure but we were very clear on the kind of wedding that we wanted and in fact, if you go back a few years and go to my brother’s (Kussh) wedding, it was huge. There were like 5,000 people or 8,000 people at any function. The first thing I told my mother was meri shaadi vaise nahi hogi (my wedding won’t be like this).” Kussh got married to Taruna Agarwal in 2015.

Sonakshi further added, “So we were very particular and clear that this is how we want to do it. And this day comes once in our lives and it’s very very special so we want to do it the way we want to do it and our friends and family obliged.” The actor said that some of friends were not happy with this as they wanted more functions. “Some might not have been too happy like you saw Huma said ‘we wanted more functions’. My best friend and stylist Mohit said ‘I want to give you five outfit changes’ so he is very upset with me that I only did one change,” she shared.

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal had a registered marriage at their home. They threw a wedding reception the same evening which was attended by many celebrities. Zaheer added, “There was no pressure but I think they just expected us to have many functions.”

Sonakshi and Zaheer tied the knot after being together for seven years. Her brother Kussh attended the reception but her brother Luv was missing from the festivities.
