Weddings in India are nothing short of grand festivals, bringing families and friends together in celebration. From vibrant outfits and lavish feasts to joyous reunions, every aspect adds to the festive spirit. Among these, wedding cards hold a special place, setting the tone for the big day and offering a glimpse of what’s to come. However, one particular card has taken the internet by storm with its hilariously unconventional details: the union of ‘Cancer Kumar’ and ‘Beedi Kumari.’
The quirky card, shared on Instagram by user @vimal_official_0001, has sparked a mix of confusion, amusement, and alarm. The humorous card has since received more than 3 million views. The card has a header which reads- “Khatarnak Vivah-Masoom Baraati” (Dangerous Wedding-Innocent Guests). The card, which is a parody of actual wedding cards, features a lot of bizarre and funny phrases like- “Amangal Gutkha Khadyaam,” “Dukhamankam,” and “Sarvavyasanam”.
The groom’s description went as follows- “Cancer Kumar alias Lailaaj Babu,” the “ill-fated son of Gutkha Lal ji and Bhagan Devi,” hailing from “Galat Rasta, Vyasanpur (Nasha Pradesh).”While on the other hand, the bride is described as “Unfortunate-Bidi Kumari alias Cigarette Devi,” the “ill-fated daughter of Tambaaku Lal ji and Sulfi Devi,” residing at “420 Yamlok House, Dukh Nagar.”
Being in line with the overall absurdity, the wedding venue was listed as a “cremation ground,” with the wedding timing described as “uncertain.” The invitation playfully describes the wedding as a “Parinaaya Sutra Aatmahatya Bandhan” (a marital bond of self-destruction), highlighting the perils of substance addiction, such as tobacco and gutkha. It also references the village of Majhaul in Bihar, reinforcing its satirical tone. This offbeat wedding card seems to be a creative effort to use humor as a tool for raising awareness about the dangers of addiction.
People in the comment section have varying reactions while most find the card funny and commend the creator for their creativity, some others see the seriousness behind the addiction to tobacco.
Another card also went viral a few days ago. In the card humorously poked fun at familiar wedding clichés, from guests inevitably criticizing the food to the exaggerated accolades bestowed upon the bride and groom. It introduced the bride as “Sharma Ji ki ladki” (Sharma Ji’s daughter), celebrated for her “academic brilliance,” and the groom as “Gopal Ji ka ladka” (Gopal Ji’s son), a B.Tech graduate now running a shop. Adding to the hilarity, the wedding date was described as a “holy day” chosen by three priests, conveniently aligning with the conclusion of a relative’s exams.
