Watch: Scottish couple marries in Rajasthan’s grand tradition

Dubai: A couple from Scotland chose to celebrate their wedding in India, embracing the grandeur of Rajasthani traditions during the Bikaner Camel Festival 2025. While it may seem unusual for a foreign couple to marry following Indian customs, the festival has become a sought-after destination for those eager to experience Rajasthan’s royal heritage and vibrant culture.

According to local media, Jackson Hingis and Roisin from Scotland decided to solemnise their union in Rajasthan, fully immersing themselves in the state’s rich traditions. The viral wedding video captures a mesmerising sight — the groom, clad in a royal sherwani and saafa (turban), rides a beautifully adorned camel to the wedding venue, wielding a ceremonial sword.

A priest officiated the wedding, performing the customary Hindu rituals as the couple tied the knot. Adding to the festive spirit, local residents joined the baraat (wedding procession), dancing in traditional Rajasthani attire. The couple also took part in the joota-churai, a fun-filled ritual where the bride’s sisters playfully steal the groom’s shoes, returning them only after he offers a token amount.

The wedding video has taken social media by storm, garnering thousands of likes and comments. Many users praised the couple for embracing Indian traditions, with one remarking, “Indian culture is truly great.” Another commented, “Wonderful Rajput-style wedding.” However, some expressed mixed feelings, with one user noting, “Foreigners are adopting Indian culture while we often overlook it ourselves.”
