A 26-year-old man died and his two cousins sustained serious injuries when a row over an alleged molestation bid during a wedding led to stone pelting in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur on Monday afternoon.
The police identified the deceased as Mohammed Muqarram alias Moni while his cousins Nadeem, 24, and Sarfaraz, 27, suffered grievous injuries.
The police said all family members of the deceased were attending the wedding organised in a hall on Behat Road when the violence broke out.
“The family members of the deceased are yet to lodge a complaint. The deceased was hit on his head with a heavy stone. We have also been told that bullets were fired during the clash. We will begin the probe once we get a complaint from the family,” Chandrasen Saini, Station House Officer (SHO), Kotwali (Rural) police station, told The Indian Express over the phone.
Vyom Bindal, Superintendent of Police, Saharanpur, said, “Moni and his cousins tried to restrain those from the other group which led to a verbal altercation that later took a violent turn. The injured have been admitted to a government hospital.”
