A cruise ship packed with the cream of Indian society for an opulent wedding party has prompted complaints to police after it pulled into the port of Genoa and pumped out loud music until dawn.

The noisy stopover was part of a Mediterranean tour by 800 guests who are also taking in Palermo, Rome and Cannes in one of the most outrageously expensive Indian weddings of all time.

Estimated to cost €139 million, the cruise is only one event in the run-up to the July wedding of Anant Ambani, son of the billionaire tycoon Mukesh Ambani — India’s richest man — and Radhika Merchant, the daughter of a wealthy industrialist.
