Mysuru: Dasara elephant team leader Abhimanyu, who carried the golden howdah for the straight fourth time, turned out to be second heaviest among the 14 elephants after veteran Arjuna, who weighed 5,850 kg.Abhimanyu gained300 kilos in one-and-half months and he weighed 5,460 kg on Wednesday.The 23-year-old Bheema gained 500 kg during the same period while Vijaya, which accompanied Abhimanyu during the Vijayadashami procession gained just 15kg.She weighed 2845 kilos.A day after the procession the weight of elephants were examined. While one has gained 500 kg, two elephants have put on 300kg and five have gained between 240 and 275kg, said forest department authorities.Abhimanyu and his mahout Vasantha were in a relaxed mood on Wednesday. The elephants are likely to return to their camps on Thursday.No fracas happened: OfficersForest officers have refuted allegations and reports of a scuffle between forest department staffers and police personnel, which according to reports led to confusion in the procession. Tribals ransack RFO office, cops rescue forest staffAgitating tribals in Chandrapur ransacked the Pombhurna range forest office, accusing the forest department of desecrating their culture and demanding stern action against those responsible.
