Veteran actor Saira Banu’s Instagram account is a melting pot of precious memories from the golden era of Hindi cinema. While most posts are about her late legendary husband Dilip Kumar, sometimes she also recalls interesting incidents with other actors. On Wednesday, Saira shared anecdotes from her interactions and shooting time with late icon Shammi Kapoor.
The actor shared two videos. One was a clip of a song from the film Vidhaata, starring Shammi and Dilip. Another clip featured footage from her silver jubilee wedding celebration, where a heartfelt exchange of greetings is seen between Dilip and Shammi.
Saira Banu’s long caption started with an anecdote from her 1991 superhit film Junglee, in which she co-starred with Shammi Kapoor. Saira wrote, “There are so many interesting anecdotes about ‘JUNGLEE’ for Shammiji would keep creating stories, he was particularly like a Pied Piper with so many pretty ladies lined up and following him around wherever we shot. Once our shooting at the Studio in Bombay was suddenly cancelled because Shammiji was not well, so Appaji, Sultan bhai, and I took off to the city at Eros Theatre to see a foreign movie and what do we see! A huge Chevrolet Impala Car convertible swinging around the road in full speed Shammiji at the wheel whizzing away and a fair young lady with dangling long ear-rings sitting right next to him. So much for Shammiji’s feigning sickness!!! We laughed away, his sickness was a scream!”

Saira also revealed how Shammi ended up drinking a whole glass of Tabasco sauce. She wrote, “Another time in Srinagar the Stars and unit were having lunch at “Oberoi Palace Hotel” and of course next to Shammiji sat a sophisticated and very fashionable lady fan and her husband. At the table, there were bottles of Tabasco Sauce and suddenly a conversation brewed up between Shammiji and the Lady. Soon enough their conversation got into a challenging one where it was ‘Yes I Can do it’ and from the Lady ‘No You Can’t do it’. Then Shammiji poured the whole bottle of Tabasco Sauce into a glass and drank it right down. It was like fire water and heaven knows what got into him to do this but he was soon bashing the table in anger and pain and vomitted. Thereupon the shooting was cancelled for Two Days. What a lark!”

Saira Banu further wrote about Shammi Kapoor and Dilip Kumar coming together for the 1982 film Vidhaata, which was directed by Subhash Ghai.
In the last part of the caption, Saira Banu described the second video in the post, where Shammi Kapoor meets Dilip Kumar in the most warm, affectionate manner.
