From SUVs to bulldozers: This Indian wedding redefines tradition

Dubai: Indian weddings are renowned for their grandeur and distinctive customs, with families often going the extra mile to make celebrations unforgettable. From bullock carts to helicopters, couples have found countless ways to add a unique touch to their special day. However, a family in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, recently took this tradition to a whole new level by organizing a ‘bidaai’ — the ceremonial send-off of the bride — on bulldozers.

A spectacle like no other

The scene unfolded on Thursday, as reported by NDTV, the wedding of Karishma and Rahul Yadav, the youngest son of Munni Lal Yadav from Azad Nagar, initially followed the usual customs. As the bride bid farewell to her family and prepared to leave in a decorated SUV, everything seemed to be unfolding as expected. However, just as the procession was about to move, a surprising twist left guests and onlookers stunned — nearly a dozen bulldozers rumbled onto the scene, becoming an integral part of the wedding convoy.

At first, the sight of the bulldozers startled locals, with some fearing a government action, as the machines have become synonymous with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s crackdown on illegal properties. But as soon as it became clear that the vehicles were there purely for celebratory purposes, the shock quickly turned into excitement. Guests and passersby eagerly pulled out their phones to capture the extraordinary moment, and soon, videos of the ‘bulldozer wedding’ were making rounds on social media.

A unique choice

When asked about the unconventional send-off, the groom’s uncle, Ramkumar, explained, “These are Babaji’s bulldozers, and we thought of doing something different for the ‘bidaai’. It looks grand and unique. Others use cars and helicopters, but since we own JCBs, we thought, why not use them?,” reported NDTV.

Even the groom, Rahul, was delighted with the decision, emphasising the popularity of bulldozers in Uttar Pradesh. The bride, Karishma, also embraced the idea wholeheartedly, making for an unforgettable wedding moment that blended tradition with an unexpected modern twist.
