Three industry reports have landed on how couples are getting married in 2026, and the common thread running through them is new tools sitting alongside old customs.

The Knot Worldwide's annual Real Weddings Study, based on responses from more than 10,000 U.S. couples married in 2025, puts the average wedding at around $34,000, with per-guest spending still climbing. It also finds roughly a third of couples now using AI tools for planning work such as vendor emails and thank-you notes, and lab-grown diamonds taking ground from mined stones.

Zola's First Look Report, its largest survey yet at more than 11,500 couples, found that Gen Z has become the majority of engaged couples surveyed for the first time. What that has brought is a mix: TikTok-inspired styling on one hand, and a selective return to formal wedding parties and religious customs on the other.

“Roughly a third of couples now use AI tools for planning work such as vendor emails and thank-you notes.”

The two cost figures do not line up. The Knot puts the average American wedding at $34,200 and Zola at $36,000, for the same market in the same year. Both are national averages drawn from different samples, which is how two reputable studies land $1,800 apart, and why neither number works as a budget.

Pinterest's trend forecasters report couples moving away from uniform florals towards statement bouquets, venues chosen to photograph well, and darker palettes layering velvet, lace and stained-glass-inspired decor.

The three reports were produced independently and measure different things, but they point the same way. Couples are spending more per head on fewer, more deliberate choices, and using new tools to get there.
