Editorial Summary & Key Highlights

The Hindu wedding calendar carries no auspicious marriage dates between 12 December 2026 and 15 January 2027. The cause is Kharmas, which begins when the Sun enters Sagittarius and ends around Makar Sankranti, and it repeats each year alongside a second period from mid-March to mid-April.

Key Insights

  • DrikPanchang lists no auspicious marriage dates between 12 December 2026 and 15 January 2027.
  • Kharmas begins when the Sun enters Sagittarius and ends around Makar Sankranti in mid-January.
  • A second Kharmas runs roughly mid-March to mid-April, when the Sun passes through Pisces.

Every panchang for this season has the same hole in it. DrikPanchang's last auspicious marriage date of 2026 is 12 December. Its first of 2027 is 15 January. Between them, across thirty-three days, there is nothing.

The cause is Kharmas, also called Malmas or Dhanurmas. It begins when the Sun enters Sagittarius, a sign governed by Jupiter, and lasts until the Sun moves into Capricorn around Makar Sankranti in mid-January. VedicFeed places it at roughly mid-December to mid-January, and the published date lists bear that out precisely.

It is not the only such period. The same tradition closes a second Kharmas from about mid-March to mid-April, when the Sun passes through Pisces. Between those two, and Chaturmas from roughly July to October, a substantial part of the year is ruled out before anyone opens a calendar.

“Across thirty-three days, there is nothing.”

That shapes the market. December weddings cluster hard into the first twelve days because everyone can see what follows, and vendor pricing in that window reflects it. A family that misses the window faces a month of waiting, then a January that opens slowly.

The two dates to plan around are these. The season effectively ends on 12 December 2026 and restarts on 15 January 2027. Anything in between will be a civil registration or a ceremony held outside the muhurat tradition, which plenty of families choose. It is worth choosing it deliberately in September rather than discovering it in December.

Dates and timings as published by DrikPanchang, whose calendar is computed for Jaipur (26°55′N, 75°47′E). Muhurat timings shift with longitude, so set your own location on the source before working to the clock. A published list is a shortlist; in most traditions the muhurat is calculated against the couple birth charts. The observation that the published lists show a continuous 33-day gap is ShaadiNews own.

The acoustic sitar during midnight pheras is such an inspired touch. Finally a return to soul over decibels!

Loved the breakdown of vintage zardozi craftsmanship. True luxury takes thousands of hours.
